Attorney Profile

Matt Elwell

I am an East Texas native, born in Longview and raised in the small town of Greenville. Prior to becoming an associate at the Thiessen Law Firm, I worked as an attorney at a downtown general practice firm for over three years. There, I was able to handle a range of legal matters such as criminal defense, personal injury, family law, and civil litigation. Prior to that, I worked at a large insurance defense firm, also here in Houston. During that time, I worked with some of the top casualty insurance providers in the world on multimillion-dollar cases.

At the Thiessen Law Firm, I work hand in hand with Mark to provide aggressive criminal defense for those in need of trial attorneys. I handle a variety of misdemeanor cases, including possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated (DWI), to felony offenses for drug possession and assault to intoxication manslaughter and attempted murder.

We are committed to helping all those in need. I will continue my passion for providing victims of accidents with top-notch legal representation. I handle a variety of personal injury matters, including motor vehicle and trucking accident cases, workers’ compensation injuries, oil field injuries, BP oil spill cases, hail/windstorm cases, Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act violations, and many other civil litigation cases for the firm.

I graduated from South Texas College of Law in the spring of 2012, in the top quarter of my class. In law school, I participated in South Texas College of Law’s moot court and mock trial programs. I received the Cali Award for Excellence for my grade in my Baseball and the Law course. I also earned the American Jurisprudence designation for my paper Hydraulic Fracturing - A Products Liability Prospective.

I graduated cum laude from Texas State University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and business administration. I focused on courses in business management, business law, economics, marketing, and communications.

In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it's fishing, hunting, or just hanging out in the sun. I'm an avid golfer when I can find the time. Being a former baseball player, I enjoy watching the sport – especially with my Texas Rangers season tickets.
