Please read Chapter 19 of the Texas Penal Code, as it deals with all criminal homicide. According to Texas penal law, you are guilty of committing criminal homicide if you “intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence” cause the death of another person. Types of criminal homicide include:
- Murder – “Intentionally or knowingly causing the death of another person or if you intend to and do cause serious bodily injury resulting in death.” This is classified as either a second degree or first degree felony, depending upon the circumstances of your case, and could result in up to life imprisonment.
- Capital murder – This type of murder is the most serious, and can be charged in a variety of cases, such as committing murder for money or killing a police officer. Capital Murder can result in life imprisonment or the death penalty.
- Manslaughter – “Causing the death of another person due to reckless actions or inactions.” Manslaughter is a second degree felony that can result in up to 20 years imprisonment and up to $10,000 in fines.
